Lake County Release Records
Two custody systems operate in Lake County. The Lake County Sheriff's Department runs the local jail function for arrests, pretrial detention, shorter local terms, and people waiting for movement. The Tennessee Department of Correction operates Northwest Correctional Complex, or NWCX, for state prisoners. Their records do not merge. A sheriff booking and release sheet documents a local jail event. A TDOC status and movement record documents a state prison event. The court file supplies the order, judgment, or sentence that gave legal authority for release.
“Released” must describe an actual movement. Bond, recognizance, time served, sentence completion, dismissal followed by release, probation, and parole can all place a person in the community. Transfer to TDOC, another county, a federal authority, ICE, a court appearance while held, or a hospital under guard does not. A person may also have several cases or holds at once. Closing one charge may leave another custody basis in force.
Lake County Inmate Release Routes
Release language tells a reader where to check next. Local descriptions vary, and Lake County has not published its exact internal field labels. The terms below are concepts to request from the custodian. They should not be assumed from a missing name or a court entry alone.

Bond does not mean acquittal. Parole is conditional release before sentence expiration, while probation is court-ordered placement in the community. A discharge is the end of the relevant custody or supervision record. A detainer is a request by another authority to take custody. These differences keep a Lake County release search tied to the actual event.
Lake County Release Record Fields
A useful record answers who left, which agency released or moved the person, when the event happened, and why. Lake County does not publish a public online release form, so the following inventory describes the details to request. It does not claim that the sheriff uses these exact screen labels.

Court records add the docket number, bond order, judgment, sentence, time already served, dismissal, and probation or split-confinement order. They explain legal authority. They may not state when jail staff completed the physical exit. FOIL can add status, location, offense, sentence, parole-hearing, release, Release Eligibility Date, and Sentence Expiration Date for current or former TDOC felony offenders.
Question: Does a past release date prove present freedom? No. It proves a prior event and must be checked against later bookings, warrants, or custody records.
Request Lake County Release Records
Tennessee has no one clearinghouse for all release records. Ask the agency that made or keeps the event record. For a county jail stay, start with the Lake County Sheriff's Department. For NWCX or another TDOC institution, use TDOC Records Management. Ask the proper Lake County clerk for the court outcome.
- Gather the full legal name, date of birth, approximate booking date, aliases, and any booking, case, TOMIS, or SID number.
- Ask the sheriff for the named person's booking and release sheet. Request the actual date and time, disposition, facility, and receiving agency if transferred.

Lake County Release Record Law
Tennessee Public Records Act guidance explains that requests go to the records custodian and that each government entity must maintain a policy for procedures, fees, and the coordinator. Under TCA § 10-7-503, access should be prompt when practical. If prompt production is not practical, the custodian must act within seven business days by producing the record, denying the request in writing with a basis, or stating the added time reasonably needed.
The general right applies to Tennessee citizens, and government identification may be requested. Inspection is not charged as copying, though copies, labor, and direct costs may be charged under the agency policy. Exceptions still matter. Juvenile material, sealed or expunged cases, protected identity data, some investigative records, victim data, and medical records may be withheld or redacted. Expungement under TCA § 40-32-101 can restrict the court trail when a court enters the order. It neither creates a release timestamp nor guarantees that each independent copy vanishes.
Lake County Release Court Trail
Lake County felony research may require two court stops. General Sessions handles felony preliminary matters, while Circuit is the court of record for the later felony case. The initial bond or preliminary event can remain with General Sessions. A later indictment, judgment, sentence, or disposition may sit in Circuit. Looking at just one level can leave a gap.

Find Lake County Released Inmates
Start with the custodian, not a broad name search. A person held only by the county belongs first with the sheriff and local courts. Someone who served a Tennessee felony sentence or entered TDOC custody or supervision belongs in FOIL. Federal and immigration cases require separate federal sources. - Collect a full name, date of birth, approximate booking date, aliases, and the strongest known agency identifier.
- For county custody, call the sheriff and ask whether the person entered the community or went to another agency. Request the release sheet.
- For state custody or supervision, search FOIL by TOMIS/TDOC number, SID, or name. Read the status and release details closely.
- Check General Sessions or Circuit for the order or judgment. Do not treat the filing time as the physical release time.
- Use VINELink for a specific-person alert or lead. Use BOP or ICE only when that custody class is plausible.
- Resolve conflicts with the agency that owns the event and record when each source was checked.
A robust timeline keeps booking, court order, eligibility, parole decision, approved plan, physical movement, supervision start, sentence expiration, and discharge separate. This avoids turning an expected release into a completed one. For a narrow same-day county inquiry, use the date-bounded sheriff records fallback rather than assuming an online list exists.
Lake County FOIL Release Search
TDOC's Felony Offender Information Lookup covers current and former Tennessee felony offenders in TDOC custody or supervision. It can remain useful after a person leaves NWCX. It is not a complete record of Lake County misdemeanor and pretrial jail stays. Read each status narrowly: Incarcerated means state custody; Parole or Probation means community supervision; Inactive is a lead that needs release details or an archived record for its exact meaning.

The official FOIL search interface shows the Tennessee search paths and identity fields.
The interface helps locate the correct TDOC record, but the displayed Release Eligibility Date is the earliest date parole consideration may occur. It is not a promised exit. Sentence Expiration Date is a separate endpoint. Release information and TDOC's completed movement record provide stronger proof of an actual event.
Note: FOIL also appears in the MyTN app under Public Safety, but that state feature is not a Lake County jail release feed.
Lake County Recent Release Records
No authoritative Lake County online roster, booking search, 24-hour release list, or 72-hour release list was found through the official sheriff page. No county release fields, update schedule, photo feed, or retention window are published there. That absence does not mean the jail keeps no internal logs. It means a release should be verified by phone and a focused record request.
For one person, give the name, birth date, and approximate booking date. Ask for the actual time and disposition. For a date range, request a release log limited to local calendar dates and specify that community releases must remain distinct from TDOC transfers, other-county transfers, federal or ICE pickups, deaths, and record corrections. If no aggregate report exists, narrow the request to the named booking/release sheet instead of asking the office to create a new record.
Question: Can an unofficial directory fill the gap? It may offer a lead, but stale entries and unclear sources cannot confirm a Lake County release.

Each system answers a limited custody question. Using the wrong one is the main cause of false release claims in Lake County, where a local jail and a large state prison share the same city.

For parole or probation, FOIL may show the public status while TDOC runs supervision and the Tennessee Board of Parole owns parole decisions. A Board grant can still depend on an approved release plan. An Inactive FOIL label needs the release information or archived movement to explain whether the sentence or supervision ended.
Lake County Release Alert Paths
VINELink offers Tennessee-specific person searches and alerts tied to custody events. Select Tennessee, search by exact name or TDOC number, compare identifiers, and open Record Details. Choose Get Notified to use channels that may include text, email, TTY, or automated phone. If a phone flow asks for a PIN, save it. Email or text may instead use a link or code.
TDOC felony coverage is documented, but Lake County Jail participation was not confirmed. Check the live agency record or ask the sheriff. A missing result can reflect spelling, data delay, retention, or agency coverage. The VINE operator is available at 888-868-4631. For federal cases, the BOP Inmate Locator accepts federal identifiers or a name and may display Released, Not in BOP custody, and a date. Neither label excludes state or immigration custody.
ICE's current detainee locator is not a release archive. A no-result can follow transfer, removal, a name mismatch, a delay, or limits on searchable data. The U.S. Marshals Service has no matching public historical release locator. A sheriff record that says USMS or ICE accepted custody describes a transfer, not a Lake County community release.
Lake County Release Count Limits
TDOC publishes monthly jail summary reports from data supplied by sheriffs and jail administrators. The reports use last-day-of-month snapshots and calendar-year or fiscal-year averages. They can describe population context. They are not individual Lake County release logs, booking totals, annual release counts, or average lengths of stay.

This source can support a carefully dated census statement, but it cannot identify who left custody. A named person's sheriff release record remains the direct evidence. Tennessee Corrections Institute inspection records are also separate: annual inspection and certification concern jail compliance, not individual release events.
Older Lake County Release Records
Northwest Correctional Complex has a two-site history that affects older searches. Site 2 opened in 1981 as Lake County Regional Correctional Facility. Site 1 became operational in 1992, and the combined operation became NWCX. An older movement, news item, or record may use the former facility name.
Search both names when the event predates the current label, but cite the current TDOC institution when describing present operations. A location change within TDOC is not a release. FOIL should show whether the person remains Incarcerated at another state location, moved to Parole or Probation, or became Inactive. For exact historical detail, request the archived TDOC movement record.
Lake County Release Program Context
The official NWCX facility page lists ABE and HiSET study, construction trades, behavioral programs, college study through Dyersburg State and Lane College, and Tennessee College of Applied Technology certifications. These are programs within a state prison. They are not Lake County jail services, release types, or promises that a person will qualify for a certain release date.
Program participation can appear in the broader correction record, while sentence law, sentence adjustments, parole action, plan approval, holds, and TDOC movement control the release path. A person leaving NWCX may travel to an approved residence outside Lake County. TDOC Policy 511.03 also distinguishes community release from delivery to another authority on a detainer.
